Communication and connection
Many students struggle with social interactions. They may not feel comfortable starting conversations with peers, and can experience anxiety or frustration in social settings. Our Social Development class addresses this directly, teaching and reinforcing social skills for students in grades K-8.
What students experience
Social skills are woven into everything we do at TQS. Students attend a Social Development class once per schedule rotation, and each month the team focuses on a new skill. Classes incorporate role-playing, skits, and scripting, helping students practice seeing situations from another person’s point of view. Teachers reinforce the same language across the curriculum, for example, describing behavior as “expected or unexpected” rather than “good or bad.”

Through consistent, repeated practice, students learn to understand and manage their emotions, build and maintain healthy relationships, make responsible decisions, and set and work toward goals.
