Internship Pathways for College Students

TQS uses research-based programs provided by compassionate professionals to enable each student with complex challenges to blossom and achieve meaningful personal, social and academic success. Our compassionate community builds trusting relationships among students, parents, therapists, faculty and staff.

 

The TQS Practicum and Internship Program provides students with the following opportunities  In alignment with your university’s requirements.

 

  1. Non-profit Management: Interns will rotate through the administrative departments of TQS to gain an understanding of the issues independent school leaders face on a daily, short and long term basis while learning about the design and structure of financial management, revenue generation, curriculum design and management, admissions and project-based management. 

  2. Student Teaching: Students will first observe teachers and students in assigned classrooms and then transition to planning and delivering instructional lessons. In alignment with your university’s requirements.

  3. Occupational and Speech Therapy: Interns will have the opportunity to apply learned techniques and skills through observation and interactive situations. Under supervision, will provide individual and group therapy.This will align with the requirements of your college’s therapy program. 

  4. Social Work: Interns will have the opportunity to apply learned skills and techniques of human behavior and social issues through observations and indirect and direct interaction with students and other members of the clinical services team. Certification in safety-care restraint techniques will be provided and is required. This will align with the requirements of your college’s social work program. 

 

Qualifications required for this internship: 

  1. Currently Enrolled in a college or university program related to: social work, occupational therapy, speech therapy, education, psychology, special education, or a related field. 

  2. Work in a stressful environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and a varied and diverse array of contacts.

  3. May work at a desk and computer for extended periods of time as well as stand for extended periods of time. 

  4. Physical agility to lift up to 30 pounds; and to bend, stoop, climb stairs and reach overhead.

  5. Work intermittently in outside weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold.

  6. Work primarily in a traditional climate controlled office environment. 

  7. Participate in physical activity with children and moveable equipment. 

  8. Engage in child restraints as designated by SafetyCare training.

  9. Exhibit manual dexterity to dial a telephone, to enter data into a computer, to see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; hear and understand speech at normal classroom levels, outdoors and on the telephone; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in normal classrooms, outdoors and on the telephone.

  2. If qualifications are met, an initial screening will be conducted by the Director of Outreach

  3. If qualifications are met, an interview will be conducted with the preceptor in your selected division

  4. Decision will be made when all applications are reviewed
