The Power of Community

The Power of Community

Dear Families:

No hour of life is wasted that is spent in the saddle.”

                                         -- Winston Churchill

This week, we’re back in the saddle -- literally! That’s right, on Tuesday our community welcomed our friends from Special Equestrians back to our 47-acre campus, and I can safely say that all involved (of both horse and human varieties) had a wonderful time.

Our students, faculty, and staff loved visiting with the horses and learning proper brushing techniques, but that’s just the beginning of this program’s impact. Working with horses helps improve focus, concentration, relationship skills, and social interactions. It also encourages our students to develop self-confidence, independence, and trust in themselves and others. We can’t wait to have these special neigh-bors back!

In addition to the excitement happening outdoors, the amazing work happening in our classrooms continued this week.

I have been dropping in on each class, and I am in awe of our teachers’ ability to leverage technology to teach students who are both home and on screen. They have adopted a greater focus on project-based learning, all while learning new digital tools themselves, and that is a major accomplishment. A big applause is deserved all around!

Finally, a few reminders:

  • Keep on wearing those masks! Parents, you’ve done a great job encouraging your children to comply with mask mandates, and I thank you for that. Let’s keep it up!
  • Get those flu shots! Now is the time. I can’t stress the importance of being proactive in this area.
  • Please, please, (pretty please!) keep your child home if they are sick. Trust me, it is better to spend a few days in Hyflex than it would be to bring a dangerous and highly infectious disease into our community.
  • Skip the trick-or-treat. Halloween is approaching, and I implore you to celebrate at home with all the scary stories and candy you can handle … but please don’t go door-to-door. It’s too great a risk.
  • Go vote on November 3! Remember, TQS is closed on election day, so get out there and make your voices heard.
  • Complete the family survey.  Thank you to everyone who has completed this survey.  This totally anonymous and confidential survey about how your student and family are faring in this unprecedented fall semester will take less than 5 minutes to complete.  Take the survey

Thank you to everyone in our TQS community for the well wishes and love for a full recovery for the member of our community who has tested positive.  The positive and loving sentiment is very much appreciated.

Shine on,

Alex
