The Growth of our Students

The Growth of our Students

Dear Families:

“Winter, a lingering season, is a time to gather golden moments, embark upon a sentimental journey, and enjoy every idle hour.” - John Boswell

There’s an old superstition that says if you sleep with a spoon under your pillow, Mother Nature will pay you a visit -- and bring snow with her. (I hear that putting the spoon in the freezer for an hour first promises even more flurries.)

Well, I think many of your homes have bouquets of spoons in your beds at this point.

Yes, it’s February in the Mid-Atlantic, and it has been snowing A LOT. The sky is gray, we’re stuck inside, and, while fun for sledding and snowmen, it’s pretty inconvenient for school and work. So I thank you all for your patience with delayed openings, snow days, virtual days, and indoor recesses.

Despite the bitter cold outside, our TQS students continue to grow and shine both in our classrooms and our HyFlex program.

When I walk down our halls (or pop into a virtual class), I see ...

  • Creative lessons, eager and engaged students, and smiling faces. I also see our everyday heroes -- our teachers and staff -- masking, cleaning, hand washing, distancing, getting vaccinated, and simply doing everything possible to keep students safe and healthy.
  • Parents who are doing everything they can to help their children succeed and keep our community safe. Thank you for all that you do on a daily basis. COVID rates are declining in Montgomery County, but we must all stay vigilant to maintain this trend. Now is not the time to relax our health and safety measures.
  • An extraordinarily busy Admissions department! Let’s give our warmest welcome to the families who will be joining us in September! I could not be happier for the students who are finding TQS, and for the families who have the chance to provide a transformational experience for their children.

As for the 2021-2022 school year: there are still a few spots remaining, but they are going very fast. I cannot believe I am starting to send these messages this early. If you are considering TQS for your child, do not wait. I hate turning people away -- it is not why I went into this work, and it breaks my heart every time I must do it.

One final reminder: next week the school is closed Monday thru Thursday. Monday is President's Day, a national holiday.  On Tuesday, teachers are training in Project-Based Learning, and on Wednesday and Thursday, teachers are getting vaccinated and resting out the side-effects.

Once again, thank you all for being my bright spot in a frozen landscape. (And please, check your children’s beds for wayward spoons.)

Shine on,

Alex
