Dear TQS Families,
“The best recreation is to do good.” – Quaker William Penn, 1644-1718
In 1982, experienced independent school Head of School George Rowe and special education teacher Beverly Morgan, with three students, began what they called “The Pipe Dreams Friends School.”
By 2017, the school (now called “The Quaker School at Horsham”) had grown to serve nearly 70 students. TQS constructed the building we are now in and developed our beautiful campus while staying on the grounds of the Horsham Friends Meeting House.
Now, 42 years after the initial “pipe dreams” became a reality, this thriving school has become an innovation center for students with complex challenges and a leader in evidence-based independent school special education.
But we haven’t stopped there.
As a community, we continue to transform to meet the changing needs of our students. One of our most recent innovations? The Real World Ready program, now in its second year, which provides work and college experience to young adults ages 18 to 22.
Yet as this program thrives and evolves, so must our campus – which is why I’m so proud to share that we are growing again by returning to our roots.
Soon, TQS Upper School and the Real World Ready program will move back into the Horsham Friends Meetinghouse. Renovations have already begun.
This custom-designed space will have new floors, new lights and windows, whiteboards, tack boards, beautiful comfortable furniture (much of it hand-made in Germany), a state-of-the-art heating, cooling, and air handling system, connectivity to the school’s servers, and high-speed internet.
TQS’s older students will now have the best of all worlds: they will learn in a venerable 300-year-old building and a beautiful, newly renovated, high-tech, comfortable school environment.
I extend my deepest gratitude to the Horsham Friends Meetinghouse for leasing the space to the school for $1 and so steadfastly supporting our growth, to the Horsham Township for making this move possible, and to the generous donors who contributed to this project.
As part of our TQS family, you know that we believe authentic, meaningful change requires bold strides forward. We look forward to taking yet another step forward with you and your wonderful children.
Shine on,
Alex
