A Shining Commitment

A Shining Commitment

Dear Families:

“Courage is the most important of all the virtues because, without courage, you can’t practice any other virtue consistently.”

— Maya Angelou

There are weeks when it is easy to #shinetogether, and there are weeks when it’s difficult to see the sun’s rays through the clouds. While this was one of those difficult weeks, the inner light of our community still shines -- even as we face some shadows.

I cannot ignore the fact that our greater school community, our neighborhoods and homes, are hurting. The police-involved shooting in Philadelphia, coupled with peaceful protests that have erupted in vandalism and violence, hits painfully close to home for many of our students and families. As a school committed to social justice and affirming the dignity of all individuals, we hold these issues, and all people affected, in our hearts.

This week our own school community was also tested. As you know, we had our first COVID case on campus. Fortunately, our preparation, and health and safety measures, passed the test:

  • It has been two weeks since the positive case, and none of the direct contacts quarantined have developed symptoms.
  • Those students and teachers who are in quarantine are successfully learning and teaching using our Hyflex model, preserving the TQS educational experience.
  • The number of individuals quarantined was kept low, and our school was able to continue to run smoothly in person.

This successful response all stems from the dedicated faculty, staff, students, and families who make up our community. Mask wearing remains excellent, teachers remain committed, students remain engaged, and you -- parents -- remain superstars. Your ability to speak with your children about health, safety, masks, and our COVID case, is what keeps our community strong.

While tough times are inevitable, it is how we respond as a community that shows what we’re made of. Thank you for making it such a joy to lead this school. YOU are my ray of sunshine on a cloudy day.

Shine on,

Alex

P.S. - Tomorrow is Halloween. Have some candy, watch a scary movie … but consider staying home (and safe). However, DON’T stay home on November 3 -- it’s Election Day, our schools are closed, and the polls are open. Make your voice heard. #Shinetogether.

Enjoy our collection of Halloween activities and costumes.
