TQS At A Glance The Quaker School at Horsham is an independent, coeducational day school founded in 1982 for elementary and middle school students with language-based learning differences who have experienced difficulties with academics. Our curriculum is multi-sensory and focuses on the acquisition of reading, language, organizational and social skills. Our students range in age from 5 to 14 in approximately Pre-first to Ninth grade. The goal is to prepare students to become successful and independent learners. STUDENT PROFILE: Enrollment is 70 students. Our mission is intended to serve students who have average to superior cognitive abilities. We are unable to meet the needs of students with primarily emotional or behavioral challenges. CLASSES: Classes are non-graded and grouped by developmental, educational and social {glance} needs. Student/teacher ratio is 4:1, with 8-9 students (with two teachers) maximum per classroom. In addition to a core curriculum in the language arts and math, we offer Science, Social Studies, Art, Music, Physical Education, Wood Shop and Service Learning. TUITION: For the 2009-2010 school year, tuition is $27,820 for 1st through 8th grades; $30,920 for the 9th grade preparatory program. FACULTY: Teachers are highly trained in research-based interventions. All reading teachers are certified in Orton-Gillingham credentialed programs; Wilson Reading System, and Project Read’s Framing Your Thoughts and Comprehension Strand. On-going staff training occurs during monthly in-services. SPECIALISTS Occupational Therapist: TQS has an in-house occupational therapist who facilitates our integrated OT program. She guides our teachers in meeting the gross and fine motor, grapho-motor, visual processing and sensory integration needs of our students.Educational Consultants: TQS employs consultants in Language Arts and Mathematics to ensure that all of our students’ needs are understood and met to the best of our ability. Speech and Language Therapist: The Montgomery and Bucks County Intermediate Unit provide in school speech and language services. Psychological Services: Our Head of School provides support and referral services to parents, students and faculty. In addition, we offer consultation with several highly qualified psychologists and neuropsychologists. SERVICE AREA: The Quaker School at Horsham sits on the Montgomery/Bucks County border. Students come from sixteen different school districts in Philadelphia, Montgomery and Bucks Counties. SUMMER PROGRAM: A five-week intensive reading and math remediation program is available.
